Product details

This pretty cherry is unlike most other cherries, flowering during the winter months rather than the spring.

The semi-double white flowers appear intermittently from November through to March. The subtle colouring brings welcome cheer on the darkest of days. The autumn foliage is orange-yellow in colour and appears in autumn before the flowers begin to arrive.

Prunus x subhirtella Autumnalis was introduced in 1894 and won the Award of Merit in 1930, it remains a popular little tree for bringing some color to schemes in the winter time.

The winter flowering cherry forms a small tree, with a rounded head and like most cherries prefers to be planted on a well drained soil; as such heavy clay or waterlogged soils should be avoided.

This lovely tree can be useful planted in parks and gardens however can also tolerate planting in streets.

Be sure to select a planting location where the tree is prominent in the winter time.

Mature height: 3-7m
