Product details
Acer x freemanii Armstrong is a hybrid of Canadian Maple which has been produced using a cross of Acer rubrum (Red Maple) and Acer saccharinum (Silver Maple). This small to medium tree has lobed leaves, which are bright green with a silver underside and generally characteristic in shape and look of the Canadian Maple species. The autumn colour is derived from the Acer saccharinum parentage, producing an attractive display of orange and yellow.
Acer x freemanii Armstrong was selected by Newton Armstrong in the US in 1947 and has been planted since for its tightly columnar shaped crown. This Canadian Maple thankfully follows in the footsteps of the tough Silver Maple parentage much more than the Red Maple on the other side of the family, this means that it is a safer choice for soils where Manganese is not present.
Generally this sturdy Canadian Maple will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, with the exception being excessively dry or alkaline soils.
Mature height: 7-12m
